The last day of 2015, I showed up a day late to that shoot as the South East swell dropped off a couple of foot but Rohan Morris from Northside Canterbury and Levi O’Connor from Kaikoura made do with the swell that was on offer.
Mangamanu’s is such a great coast to film as surfers are able to ride out the point break longer than most other waves around New Zealand.
There’s usually also a bit of marine life claiming there territory which adds to the flare.
As always an early get up is required to try and beat that side ways wind and capture the first paddler heading out for that dawny surf.
Getting that 6am sun rise reflection off the sea in Kaikoura makes for something pretty special.
I’ve got a lot of respect for these local guys carving up at Mangamanu, they’re consistently out there progressing their surfing.
Having guys with so much stoke makes editing enjoyable and is so good to watch.
I hope you enjoy this clip and I’ll endevour to replicate more like this in the near future!
Good on ya Mangamanu!
