Harley Clifford – World Title
HARLEY CLIFFORD WINS “KING OF WAKE” AND WORLD TITLE
While celebrating his 21st birthday, Harley Clifford achieved two of the highest accolades in competitive wakeboarding on September 14 in Fort Lauderdale, Florida. Harley won the WWA Wakeboarding World Championships and also locked up the King Of Wake season title. As a single event, the Worlds concluded the eight-stop King Of Wake series and marked the end of the wake riding contest season in the U.S.
Coming into the weekend, Harley was the points leader on the King Of Wake series and was a favorite to win the event. This Aussie phenom has experienced stellar seasons in the past, but this year, the competition was like no other. “Every contest, I feel like I say, ‘That was the gnarliest finals ever,’” Harley said during the award ceremony. “But seriously, every time, it is. It gets better and better and the level of riding is insane.”
Harley’s family and friends made the trip from Australia to support and celebrate with the birthday boy, “I want to thank my mom, dad, grandma, brothers, best friends and my girlfriend for making the trip over to stay with me and be here to celebrate.”
While reflecting on his birthday, the season and his King Of Wake title, Harley cracked a smile. “Wow. This is unreal and I’m almost speechless right now. This has been the most fun season I’ve ever had.”
One week prior to Worlds, Harley got the news that he won the WakeWorld.com “Riders Choice” honor as top wakeboarder. That same weekend, at Surf Expo, Harley won “Best Wakeboarder” at the WAKEBOARDING Magazine Wake Awards. Topping the charts in media polls and contest results, Harley has proven that he has become one of the biggest forces to ever hit the wakeboarding scene and has already left a huge mark on the sport in a relatively short time.
